This free time card calculator adds up your hours for the week, subtracts lunch breaks, and shows daily and weekly totals in hours and minutes and in decimal hours. Enter a start time, end time, and lunch break for each day. Add an hourly rate and it also estimates regular pay, overtime pay, and total gross pay.

How to use the time card calculator

    1. Enter the start time, end time, and unpaid lunch minutes for each day you worked.
    2. Leave days off blank. They count as zero.
    3. Optionally add your hourly rate. Change the overtime multiplier or the weekly overtime threshold if your employer uses different rules.
    4. Read daily totals next to each day and the weekly total below the table.
    5. Use Clear all to start a new week.

    Example: a week with overtime

Say you work Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch. Each day is 9 hours 30 minutes, so the week is 47 hours 30 minutes (47.50 decimal hours). With an hourly rate of $20 and overtime at 1.5x after 40 hours, regular pay is 40 x $20 = $800. Overtime pay is 7.5 x $30 = $225. Gross pay for the week is $1,025.

How a time card is calculated

Each day equals end time minus start time minus lunch. The weekly total is the sum of the seven days. Hours up to the overtime threshold (40 by default) are paid at your normal rate. Hours above it are paid at your rate times the overtime multiplier (1.5 by default). Gross pay is regular pay plus overtime pay, before taxes and deductions.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a time card with a lunch break?

Subtract the start time from the end time for each day, then subtract the unpaid lunch. Add the daily results to get the weekly total.

How is overtime calculated on a time card?

In the US, many hourly employees get time and a half for hours worked over 40 in a workweek. This calculator applies the multiplier to every hour above the threshold you set.

How do I convert time card hours to decimal?

Divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours. For example, 38 hours 15 minutes is 38.25 hours.

Does it work for shifts past midnight?

Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator treats it as the next day.

Is the pay shown before or after taxes?

Pay is gross, meaning before taxes and deductions. Your actual take-home pay will be lower.
